Today, on 22 June, the XIX Meeting of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) was held in Almaty.
The meeting, chaired by the Head of the Council of Elders Binali Yıldırım, brought together members of the Council: Hasan Hasanov from Azerbaijan, Ikram Adyrbekov from Kazakhstan, Apas Jumagulov from Kyrgyzstan, Sadikjan Turdiyev from Uzbekistan, and Oktay Oksüzoğlu from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The meeting was also attended by OTS Secretary General Kubanychbek Omuraliev, President of the Turkic Academy Prof. Dr. Shahin Mustafayev, and President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation Aktoty Raimkulova.
The participants discussed key issues related to the development of cooperation among Turkic states, as well as prospects for collaboration in the political, economic, cultural, educational, transport, and tourism sectors.
In his address, President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev, provided an overview of the Academy’s flagship projects, with particular emphasis on the implementation of the Common Turkic Alphabet, the preparation of a Common History of Turkic States, and the strengthening of scientific cooperation across the Turkic world.
The meeting also noted that the eight-volume series of sectoral terminological dictionaries prepared by the Turkic Academy received high praise from the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. In this regard, the importance of further coordination in developing a shared terminological base for Turkic languages was emphasized, and the initiative to organize a Forum of Turkic Intellectuals under the auspices of the Council of Elders was supported as a step toward strengthening the common cultural and intellectual space of the Turkic world.
