The Turkic Common Latin alphabet system consisting of 34 letters for the Turkic world and based on Latin script has been re-established in 1991. This alphabet was recognized for a wide use in all Turkic-speaking states and nationalities. This version of the alphabet was adopted by linguists and scholars at the symposium on "Modern Turkic Alphabet", organized by the Institute of Turkic Studies at Marmara University in Istanbul on October 18-20, 1991. This meeting was attended by scholars from countries such as Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan.
