Duration: 2023 – 2026
Annotation: The project "Turkic Toponyms of the World" aims to conduct a comprehensive study of geographical names within the Turkic regions, recognizing that toponyms serve as linguistic passports reflecting the history and identity of the peoples inhabiting these areas. While Turkic toponyms have been examined individually within specific languages or nations, there is a need for a holistic analysis of Turkic toponymy as a unified system. For instance, the old Turkic toponym "Ulugh Tagh" corresponds to "Uly Tau" in Kazakhstan and "Uludağ" in Tűrkiye, illustrating the interconnectedness of Turkic place names across different regions. This project seeks to bridge these linguistic and geographical connections, providing valuable insights into the cultural and historical ties among Turkic communities.
