President of the Turkic Academy Participated in the Opening of the Turkic World Week in Baku

Today in Baku, President of the Turkic Academy, Prof. Dr. Shahin Mustafayev delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the Turkic World Week dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress.

The Turkic World Week is being held in accordance with the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, on the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress, which took place in Baku in 1926. The events are organized by the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, and the Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan, in partnership with the Organization of Turkic States, the Turkic Academy, TÜRKSOY, the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation and Baku State University.

More than 120 scholars, researchers, and academics from over 20 countries are participating in the events, along with representatives of international Turkic organizations, state institutions, the academic community, and diplomatic missions.

In his remarks at the opening ceremony, President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev emphasized that the First Turkological Congress of 1926 was a turning point in the development of Turkology and in strengthening intellectual cooperation among Turkic peoples. He noted that the ideas of the Congress remain relevant today, continuing through contemporary joint scientific initiatives.

Mustafayev also outlined the main areas of the Turkic Academy’s activities, highlighting the adoption of the Common Turkic Alphabet in 2024, the preparation of the academic monograph “History of the Turkic States,” the implementation of joint archaeological research, and the development of scientific and educational cooperation within the frameworks of the TURKUNIB network and the ORHUN academic mobility program.

The events of the Week will continue until July 3 and include international conferences, scientific panels, exhibitions, and cultural programs dedicated to the history, languages, and cultural heritage of the Turkic world.
