On November 12, an International Symposium titled “Dede Korkut / Korkut Ata: Past - Present - Future” was held in Osmaniye, Türkiye. The event was organized by Osmaniye Korkut Ata University with the participation of leading scientific and cultural institutions from across the Turkic world.
The opening ceremony was attended by President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev, Governor of Osmaniye Erdinç Yılmaz, Rector of Osmaniye Korkut Ata University Turgay Uzun, Rector of the Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University Alparslan Ceylan, Chair of the Atatürk Higher Council for Culture, Language, and History Professor Derya Ors, Chair of the Turkish Linguistic Society Osman Mert, as well as scholars from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Türkiye, and Uzbekistan.
In his speech, President of the Turkic Academy, Prof.Dr. Sh. Mustafayev, emphasized that the heritage of Dede Korkut represents a spiritual code that unites the Turkic peoples and plays a crucial role in strengthening their shared cultural memory and identity. He also stressed that the wise sayings and teachings of Dede Korkut should occupy a worthy place in the educational programs of Turkic states, and that the study and promotion of this heritage require joint efforts by scholars and research centers across the entire Turkic world.
The symposium program included fifteen thematic sessions covering folklore, history, language, music, and philosophy. Participants discussed the collective memory of Turkic peoples, mythological and religious motifs in the Book of Dede Korkut, the portrayal of women in the epic, as well as the role of this work in modern education and cultural diplomacy.
