Turkic Week Opens in Vienna

From 12 to 15 January 2026, Vienna is hosting Turkic Week. This large-scale cultural and diplomatic initiative aims to present the centuries-old spiritual and cultural heritage of the Turkic world, as well as its contemporary interaction within the global landscape. Participants include President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev, heads and representatives of Turkic cooperation organizations, delegations from the member states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), international organizations and diplomatic missions accredited in Vienna, as well as representatives of the Turkic diaspora in Europe.

The program opened with the ceremonial inauguration of the photo exhibition “The Turkic World Along the Great Silk Road,” jointly organized by the Turkic Academy and the OTS. Held at the United Nations Office at Vienna, the exhibition showcases not only the shared historical and cultural heritage of the Turkic peoples, but also their profound and enduring role in the development of global connections over the centuries.

As part of Turkic Week, a roundtable discussion entitled “From the Silk Road to the Middle Corridor: Strengthening Connectivity through Transport and Trade Facilitation” was held at the Hofburg Palace on the premises of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). High-level officials, leading experts, and representatives of international organizations took part in the event, focusing on the development of transport infrastructure, the facilitation of trade procedures, and the strategic importance of East–West connectivity.

In addition, a capacity-building training program for the Turkic diaspora was organized, aimed at strengthening coordination among Turkic diaspora organizations in Europe, enhancing their institutional capacity, and fostering people-to-people ties. The program concluded with a gala concert featuring artists from Turkic nations, highlighting the richness of the Turkic world’s cultural heritage and the diversity of its artistic traditions.
