The International conference "Roots of Brotherhood: Models of Outstanding Personalities" was held in Astana

This year, which we are now approaching the end of, has been the year of the 100th anniversary for the Turkic World. This year, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye, the 100th anniversary of the birth of the national leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, and the 100th anniversary of the birth of the famous Kazakh writer Kemel Tokayev are celebrated.

On the occasion of these anniversaries, an international conference titled “Roots of Brotherhood: Models of Outstanding Personalities” was held today, on December 20, 2023, in Astana by the Turkic Academy. Well-known state and public figures, heads of diplomatic missions, scholars and intellectuals attended the event held at the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Within the scope of the event, famous historian Afet İnan’s work titled “Remembering Atatürk”, translated into Kazakh for the first time, the book “Charismatic Leader, Bright Personality Haydar Aliyev”, which tells about the bright years of Haydar Aliyev, and the book about Kemel Tokayev, the founder of the Kazakh detective genre, “Kemel Tokayev: The Life Story of a Pen Master” were presented.

The meeting was attended by the President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev, Senate Member of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Darkhan Kydırali, Member of the Elders’ Council of the Organization of Turkic States Hasan Hasanov, statesman and public figure Adil Ahmetov, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Kazakhstan Mustafa Kapucu, former State Secretary of the Kyrgyz Republic and the member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic Osmonakun Ibraimov, and professor of Ulugbek National University of Uzbekistan Nasimhon Rahmonov made speeches.

In his speech, Shahin Mustafayev drew attention to the great importance of introducing the leading names of the Turkic world. “The common personalities in the life paths of our sister peoples reflect our common past. Their painful fates tell us our historical path. From this perspective, the life stories of famous people are like the best textbooks in history,” said the Academy President.

Senate member Darkhan Kydyrali shared his opinions about the books presented to the public and noted that the Academy has carried out successful work to introduce distinguished personalities. OTS Elders’ Council member Hasan Hasanov shared his memories on Azerbaijan’s National Leader Haydar Aliyev and talked about his role in bringing brother peoples together.

Ambassador Mustafa Kapucu noted that important events regarding the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye were held and expressed his gratitude for the high-level meeting organized by the Academy.

Uluğbek National University Professor Nasimhon Rahmonov emphasized that Kemel Tokayev is a writer who founded the detective genre in Kazakh literature and said that his works contributed to the formation of this genre in Uzbek literature.

It is worthy to note that the memoir titled “Remembering Atatürk” is the first translated version of Afet İnan's book ın Kazakh, published by the Turkic Historical Society in 2021. The book contains the memories and thoughts of Ms. Afet İnan, one of the leading representatives of the Turkish female intellectual community, about Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Türkiye.

The book “Charismatic Leader, Bright Personality Haydar Aliyev”, written based on the memoirs of Hasan Hasanov, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, statesman, public figure, and member of the OTS Elders’ Council, describes the life of Haydar Aliyev on the eve of independence.

The first part of the book “Kemel Tokayev: The Life Story of a Master Pen” begins with the memoirs of Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokaev, titled “My Thoughts about My Father”, published in various languages. The second part of the book contains memories and opinions about Kemel Tokayev by his friends and disciples.
