The heads of states of the Organization of Turkic States appointed the President of the International Turkic Academy

Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, Doctor of Historical Sciences Shahin Majid oglu Mustafayev was appointed in the capacity of the new President of the International Turkic Academy in the framework the Summit of the Organization of Turkic States, held on November 11, 2022 in Samarkand.

Shahin Mustafayev is a well-known specialist in the medieval history and culture of the peoples of the Middle East and Central Asia. He was born in 1962 in the city of Baku. After graduating the Faculty of Oriental Studies of the Baku State University in 1984, he connected his life with academic science. He successfully completed his postgraduate studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences in Moscow and in 1990 he defended his dissertate at the Institute of Asian and African Countries at M.Lomonosov Moscow State University. Being as a researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies in Baku, Shahin Mustafayev was engaged in the study of ethno-cultural and political relations between the countries of the East along the Silk Road in the Middle Ages. He became one of the participants and winners of the ten-year UNESCO Hirayama-Silk Road Program and also participated in many prestigious scientific and practical conferences in Austria, Germany, France, Hungary, Iran, Turkiye, China, Russia, India, Brazil and other countries. He also carried out scientific research in famous centers and universities in a number of countries, in particular, at Istanbul University in Turkiye, at the Oxford Center for Islamic Studies in the UK, at Indiana University in the USA, at the Higher Normal School at the Higher Normal School (Paris - École normale supérieure) in France. At the end of 2007, Shahin Mustafayev was elected to the post of director of the International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAI) and for six years he successfully headed the Institute. From 2013 to this day, he has held various superior positions at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Having become as a full member of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan in 2017, he actively promotes the development of scientific relations his country with the countries of Central Asia, including within the framework of UNESCO international programs. He is the author of 6 books and monographs, as well as more than 100 scientific articles. Fluent in Azerbaijani, Turkish, English, Russian, Persian languages.
