A conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the founding of Turkey has been held

On November 16, 2023, the Turkic Academy together with L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University and the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Kazakhstan held the international conference on the topic "From the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye to the future of the Turkic World". The event was timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye.

The opening ceremony of the Conference was attended by the President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Türkiye to the Republic of Kazakhstan Mustafa Kapucu,Member of the Board – Vice-Rector for Science, Commercialization and Internationalization of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University Zhanna Kurmangaliyeva, Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Ontalap Onalbekuly, Honorary member of the Turkish Historical Society, member of the Board of the International Committee of Ottoman Studies Professor İlber Ortaylı, Head of the Department of Kazakh Language and Turkic Studies of Nazarbayev University Uli Schamiloglu made welcoming speeches. In addition, the Conference was attended by employees of diplomatic missions, public and state figures, representatives of the intelligentsia and scholars of Turkology.

Speaking at the meeting, the Head of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev said that the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye is an important historical milestone, and noted that today, within the framework of Turkic cooperation, great opportunities were opening up for related states that are strengthening their fraternal ties.

"The importance of the Turkic World from the perspective of geopolitics and geoeconomics is gradually increasing. In a turbulent world, where instability is growing, there is a very high probability that the Turkic World will become a zone of peace and prosperity. We wish that in the coming period the Turkic World will be devoted to mutual consent, strong fraternal ties and friendly relations, security and stability will be preserved," Shahin Mustafayev said.

In turn, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Türkiye to the Republic of Kazakhstan M. Kapucu noted that the jubilee X summit of the Organization of Turkic States, which took place on November 3, 2023 in Astana, was held at a high level and became a turning point at the new stage of cooperation. In addition, the Ambassador thanked the Turkic Academy and the L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University, which organized this event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Türkiye.

Congratulating the Turkish public on the centennial anniversary, Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan O. Onalbekuly noted that Türkiye's achievements are the pride of the entire Turkic World.

The honorary guest of the conference İ. Ortaylı noted the importance of deepening cultural ties among the Turkic peoples, as well as cultural cooperation in the process of strengthening integration.

Within the framework of the meeting, the Turkic Academy held a presentation of the book by the famous Turkish historian Afet İnan "Recalling Ataturk ". The new book contains the memories and thoughts of the outstanding representative of the Turkish intelligentsia, Ms. Afet İnan, about the great figure of the Turkic World, the founder of the Republic of Türkiye, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. It is worth noting that the book was first published in the Kazakh language by the Academy.

Then Professor İlber Ortaylı presented his lecture on the directions of the study of Turkic history.

At the end of the Conference, the guest was awarded a special medal of the Turkic Academy for his contribution to strengthening cooperation of the Turkic World, and also awarded the title of honorary professor of the L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University.
