On May 16 this year, the heads of the National Commissions for UNESCO of Turkic countries gathered in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan’s capital.
Vice-President of the Turkic Academy Askhat Kesikbaev participated in the 10th conference hosted by the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY). During the opening ceremony, he delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the Academy’s president Shahin Mustafayev.
The meeting commemorated the 300th birth anniversary of the renowned Turkmen poet Makhtumkuli Fragi.
The event was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and Chairman of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO Rashid Meredov, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TurkPa) Mehmet Sureyya Er, director of the UNESCO Almaty regional office Amir Piric, Secretary General of TURKSOY Sultan Raev, president of the Foundation of Turkic Culture and Heritage Aktoty Rayimkulova, President of the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO Ocal Oguz, as well as other representatives of diplomatic missions.
During the panel session “Cooperation on the Path of Common Turkic Cultural Heritage” vice-president of the Turkic Academy Askhat Kesikbaev emphasized that the Academy, as a scientific integration organization, remains committed to ongoing research on the cultural heritage of the Turkic world.
Furthermore, Askhat Kesikbayev conveyed the Academy's gratitude for Turkmenistan's official application for observer status at the Turkic Academy and informed that the necessary official procedures are now underway.
