The Association of Research Institutes and Centers of Archeology of the Turkic World (ARICA) has been established

On November 9, 2023, in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, the Turkic Academy, with support of the Secretariat of the Organization of Turkic States, organized the “First Working Meeting of the Heads of Institutes and Centers of Archeology of the Turkic World.”

The event was attended by the President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev, Heads of scientific institutes and centers in the field of archaeological research of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Tatarstan (Russian Federation), Karakalpakstan (Republic of Uzbekistan) and Mongolia, as well as leading archaeologists and experts.

During the meeting, the heads of research institutes and centers discussed possible areas of cooperation and deepening relations in the field of archeology of the Turkic world. In his opening speech, the President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev focused on the goals and objectives of the first working meeting, the immediate goal of which is the creation of the Association of Research Institutes and Centers for the Archeology of the Turkic World (ARICA).

Shahin Mustafayev emphasized that within the framework of the comprehensive development of Turkic integration, it is necessary to create a structure that unites archaeological institutes and centers of the Turkic World to coordinate archaeological research, as well as to jointly solve existing problems.

Participants at the event recognized the importance of establishing a platform on which archaeological research institutes and centers could interact online, exchange knowledge and jointly conduct research and activities.

The meeting participants noted that ARICA should become a platform for active interaction, exchange of information and experience, as well as for joint scientific research and other activities, thereby consolidating archaeological research institutes, centers and current experts of the Turkic world.

Following the meeting, the heads of scientific organizations and experts signed the Protocol on the establishment of the “Association of Research Institutes and Centers for the Archeology of the Turkic World” (ARICA).

The protocol on the establishment of ARICA was signed by the following research institutions: the Institute of Archaeology, Ethnography and Anthropology of Azerbaijan National Academy of Science, the A.Kh. Margulan Institute of Archaeology of the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Yahyo Gulomov Samarkand Institute of Archaeology of the Agency of Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the National Center of Archaeology of Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Director of the Institute of Art Studies of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Institute of Art Studies of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Karakalpak Research Institute of Humanities of the Karakalpak Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of Tatarstan Academy of Sciences (Russian Federation).

Also as a part of the event, a presentation of the seven-volume publication “Archaeology of the Volga-Ural Region”, prepared by the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, took place.
