In the Hungarian town of Bugac, the IX International Kurultai of the Hun-Turkic Peoples has officially commenced

President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev attended this significant event, which brought together representatives from over 20 brotherly nations.

The opening ceremony also was attended by Hungarian Parliament Vice-Speaker Sándor Lezsák, Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States Kubanychbek Omuraliev, Secretary General of TURKSOY Sultan Raev, Secretary General of TURKPA Mehmet Süreyya Er, President of the Hungarian Turan Foundation András Bíró and other representatives of Hungarian officials and representatives from international organizations.

The Kurultai showcased the rich cultural and historical heritage of the peoples of the vast Eurasian steppe, who once inhabited the historic Turan.

During the opening ceremony, Shahin Mustafayev delivered a speech highlighting the importance of the Kurultai as an integral component of Hun-Turkic civilization and a crucial institution of steppe statehood. He noted that in the past, Kurultais were where key decisions affecting the fate of nations were made, including the election of a khagan. Mustafayev also expressed his gratitude to his Hungarian colleagues for preserving and continuing this tradition in the heart of Europe.

As part of the Kurultai’s opening, a scientific forum was held, focusing on cooperation between Hungary and Turkic countries. The forum, conducted through interactive discussions, included participants from various delegations, leaders of Turkic cooperation organizations and official representatives from Hungary and Turkic states.

The forum addressed issues related to developing a shared understanding of the history of the Hun-Turkic peoples, emphasizing the need for ongoing study and development of this topic.

In his speech at the forum, Shahin Mustafayev underscored the importance of creating a unified concept of the history of Turkic countries. He also noted that the Turkic Academy holds annual congresses on the history of Turkic statehood to foster cooperation in this area and to facilitate the exchange of historical knowledge. Mustafayev reminded attendees that last year’s congress took place in Bishkek, and this year it is planned to be held in Almaty.

At the conclusion of the forum, participants exchanged commemorative gifts, symbolizing the strengthening of friendly relations among the participating countries.
