On May 15–16, the delegation of the Turkic Academy took part in a series of international events held in Turkistan (Kazakhstan), dedicated to the spiritual legacy and political-legal development of the Turkic world.
One of the key events was the International Scientific Symposium honoring the great Turkic thinker and poet Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, held at the city's Congress Hall. The symposium, which is organized on a regular basis, was attended by State Counsellor Erlan Karin, who read a congratulatory message on behalf of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Also in attendance were the Minister of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan Aida Balayeva, Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek, members of parliament, scholars and academics dedicated to studying Yasawi’s heritage.
At the plenary session, Vice-President of the Turkic Academy Askhat Kessikbayev delivered a welcoming address on behalf of the Academy’s President, Prof. Dr. Shahin Mustafayev. In his speech, Kessikbayev emphasized that the study and promotion of Yasawi’s legacy is one of the Academy’s key areas of focus. Among the Academy’s major initiatives, he highlighted the reprint of the translation of Diwani Hikmet, as well as the inclusion of a section on Yasawi's heritage in the General Turkic Literature textbook, which was officially approved by the education ministers of four member states of the Turkic Academy.
He also noted that in different years the Academy has organized international conferences in Turkistan and Almaty, and during one such forum, in collaboration with Khoja Ahmed Yasawi International Kazakh-Turkish University, presented a facsimile edition of an ancient Quran translated into Turkic nearly 1,000 years ago—dating back to Yasawi’s time.
Around the same dates, an international scientific-practical conference titled “The Turkic World: Traditions, Practices and Prospects for the Development of Electoral Systems” was held at the Khoja Ahmed Yasawi International Kazakh-Turkish University. The event was organized as part of the Consultative Platform of the Central Election Authorities of the Organization of Turkic States.
Nurdin Useev, an expert from the Turkic Academy, took part in discussions focused on the history of electoral institutions in Turkic countries, the analysis of voting practices, strengthening civil participation mechanisms and future prospects for cooperation.
