On October 4, 2022, the International Turkic Academy carried out the international promotion of the Kutlug Khagan memorial complex and inscription, which was involved in the ‘Nomgon’ excavations carried out with the Mongolian Academy of Sciences Archeology Institute in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
The introductory ceremony started with a photographic exhibition of archaeological excavations and historical artifacts found in the Kutlug Kagan complex. The Vice President of the Turkic Academy made the opening speech and gave information about the activities of the institution in the field of archeology in Mongolia and the Kutlug Khagan memorial complex located in the Nomgon land. Deputy Chairman F. Mecidli said, “I want to share a good news with you today. As a result of this year’s excavations, a complex and an inscription dedicated to Kultegin and Bilge Kagan’s father, Kutlug Elteris Kagan, who revived the Turkish Khaganate, were found. I would like to point out that it is the oldest written monument in which the name “Turk” is mentioned for the first time in a valuable inscription of the Turkish period.’ Turkish Academy expert Napil Bazilhan gave comprehensive information about the complex and the written monument at a special meeting to promote the Kutlug Khagan monument complex, At the same time, the guests attending the event mentioned the importance of the Kutlug Khagan monument complex and the inscription discovered by the ‘Nomgon’ delegation and noted that it is an important event in terms of Turcology. Baku State University Rector Elchin Babayev stated that the scientists participating in the excavation could read important words such as “God”, “Turk”, “Kutlug”, “division” from the text of the monument and said, It is a source of great joy and pride. It is also an honor to make the presentation in Azerbaijan at Baku State University. Because Baku State University is one of the main centers of Turcology in the country.’ Isa Gabibbeyli, Vice President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, described the discovery of this inscription as a great scientific discovery that will bring changes to the studies of Turkish history. He noted that this inscription includes the philosophy, history and language of the Great Turkic Khaganate. I. Gabibbeyli expressed his confidence that Azerbaijani scientists will also contribute to the research of the monument.
