In Kazakhstan paid tribute to the the victims of the bloody tragedy in Khojaly

On February 24, the Turkic Academy, together with the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Kazakhstan, held an event dedicated to the 31st anniversary of the Khojaly Genocide.

The event, held at the Turkic Academy, was attended by the Head of the Academy Shahin Mustafayev, the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Kazakhstan Agalar Atamoglanov, statesmen and public figures, representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora and employees of diplomatic missions. As part of the event, an exhibition of photographs taken after the tragedy in Khojaly was organized. The event started with a moment of silence in memory of those murdered in the massacre. The head of the Academy, Shahin Mustafayev, told the audience about the tragic events during the Khojaly genocide committed by Armenian armed troops.

  • The genocide is a tragedy not only for the Republic of Azerbaijan, but for the whole world. After all, the victims, death of innocent people are the main problem, in whatever country they are. I am sure that the world community will give a fair assessment of the event in Khojaly, so that such crimes be never more committed in any country of the world and against the civilian population. I wish that such a terrible event never happen again in the history of mankind, - said Sh. Mustafayev. In turn, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan A. Atamoglanov thanked the guests who came to commemorate the victims of the massacre in Khojaly, and expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Turkic Academy for supporting this event.
  • "The Khojaly genocide was a very heavy blow for the entire Azerbaijani people. Due to the sudden attack, many Azerbaijanis were left to fend for themselves. Today there is an alley in Khojaly, dedicated to the victims. In whatever country we live, it is our civic duty not to forget and remember those who died in the Khojaly massacre. Therefore, every year we hold an event at the Embassy in memory of this tragedy. And this year we are holding a commemorative event at the Turkic Academy, the intellectual center of the Turkic world. In this regard, we express our gratitude to the Turkic Academy, which co-organized this event, - said A.Atamoglanov. It is worth noting that on February 26, 1992, a bloody event took place in the town of Khojaly of Azerbaijan, as a result of which 613 civilians died, including 63 children, 106 women and 70 elderly people. Besides, about 150 residents of the area have practically disappeared and have not yet been found. As a result of the massacres of innocent people by the Armenian military, 8 families were completely destroyed, 25 children were left orphans and 130 children became semi-orphans. In addition, the organizers of the armed attack held 1,275 residents captive. 5,379 residents of Khojaly were subjected to violence.
