Today, the 29th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) has officially commenced in Baku, marking one of the world’s largest and most significant events dedicated to environmental protection and combating climate change. The conference will run from November 11 to 22, representing Azerbaijan’s largest event to date.
As part of COP29, a Climate Action Summit for World Leaders will take place on November 12-13, where heads of state and government will discuss key steps to address global climate change.
The main objective of COP29, attended by the President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev, alongside other international organization leaders, is to establish a New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) to ensure fair financing for climate initiatives.
The conference agenda includes 14 initiatives, among them: linking climate action with sustainable development goals, establishing green energy corridors and green energy storage facilities, advancing clean hydrogen technology, reducing methane emissions, and setting up a Climate Finance Action Fund. These initiatives are geared toward the critical goal of limiting global warming.
An estimated 40,000 to 50,000 delegates are expected to attend, including representatives from the governments of all UN member states, EU countries and more.
