Admission to the Summer School of Turkic Studies is announced

The Turkic Academy, with the support of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA), the Turkish Linguistic Society (TDK), and Hoca Ahmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University, is organizing the Summer School of Turkology, which will take place from August 18 to 25, 2024, in Turkistan, Kazakhstan.

The Summer School is aimed at in-depth study of the history, archaeology, language and literature of Turkic peoples. The program includes theoretical and practical sessions designed for young scholars and researchers working in the field of Turkology. Participants will have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge, present their own projects, exchange experiences and establish professional contacts.

Key topics that will be covered in the Summer School include:

  • Concept of the Turkic World
  • History of Turkic States
  • Archaeology of Turkic Peoples
  • History of Art and Thought of Turkic Peoples
  • Turkic Languages and their Modern Characteristics

Special attention will be given in the program to the 950th anniversary of the "Divanu Lugati't-Turk," an important event recognized at the 42nd UNESCO General Conference in 2023.

All lectures and sessions will be conducted in Turkish. The program includes daily lectures, technical seminars and cultural events, allowing participants to immerse themselves in the rich cultural environment of the Turkic world.

Participants: The School is intended for young scholars and researchers from Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania, Jordan, Montenegro, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Participants can be doctoral students and post-doctoral researchers working in the fields of Turkology, history, literature, anthropology, cultural studies and archaeology.

Expenses: The organizers will cover the expenses for participants' transportation, meals and accommodation. Participants will be provided with free air tickets, provided they obtain medical insurance in advance. In case of non-attendance, the cost of the ticket will be charged.

Required Documents:

  • Fully completed application form (use the attached form to apply);
  • Copy of passport (only the page with the photo);
  • Copy of diploma from the most recent educational institution (if the applicant is a student, a certificate from the place of study is required);
  • Motivational letter of 250-300 words addressed to the selection committee;
  • Recommendation letter (can be obtained from the academy of sciences of the applicant's country, from university professors where the applicant studies, or from partners of the summer school - the Turkish Linguistic Society, the International Kazakh-Turkish University, the Turkic Academy, or the Turkish Academy of Sciences).
