On February 1, 2024, the President of the Turkic Academy, Shahin Mustafayev, took part in the 6th online meeting of experts on “Supporting the Nomination Process of the Silk Road to the UNESCO World Heritage List”.
The meeting was jointly organized by the UNESCO World Heritage Center and the International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS).
At the opening of the sixth meeting, Mrs. Himalchuli Gurung, Director of the Asia-Pacific Division of the UNESCO World Heritage Center, delivered a congratulatory speech. Participants actively exchanged opinions and presented their proposals. They also discussed the goals and objectives of the project to be implemented in 2024.
It is worth to note that this is the phase III of the project implemented by UNESCO and the Japanese Funds-in-trust for the Preservation of World Cultural Heritage. The experts are confident that the transnational nomination “Volga-Caspian Corridor of the Silk Road” will soon be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. As is known, other cross-border territories of the Silk Road were also included in the list.
The representatives of UNESCO World Heritage Center, Teikyo University, University College London (UCL), International Institute of Central Asian Studies, Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Cluster Office of UNESCO in Almaty, Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan, National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO and 2 experts from each participating state, as well as invited international experts attended the meeting.
