On April 10, 2023, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev paid an official visit to Kazakhstan, where he met with the President of the country, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, as it was reported by the press service of the President of Kazakhstan.
At the meeting, which took place in the Akorda residence, the Presidents of the two brotherly countries held talks in a narrow format. Then the Presidents continued negotiations with the participation of official delegations of the two states. The parties discussed in detail the key issues of the Kazakh-Azerbaijani strategic partnership and alliance, paying special attention to strengthening political, trade, economic, transport, transit, cultural and humanitarian cooperation. Following the talks, Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Ilham Aliyev signed a Joint Statement and a Protocol on the establishment of the Supreme Interstate Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Azerbaijan. Among the signed documents there is a Memorandum of Understanding on scientific cooperation between the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding on scientific and cultural cooperation between the Institute of Applied Ethno-Political Research and the Baku International Center for Multiculturalism. The parties noted that the negotiations held and the bilateral documents signed during the visit would further strengthen the friendly and allied relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Azerbaijan. Then the Presidents of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan solemnly opened the street named after Heydar Aliyev in the center of the capital. After the solemn ceremony with the participation of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev planted a tree in the Botanical Garden of Astana.
