Today, 15 August, the Hun-Turkic Kurultaj opened in Bugac, bringing together representatives of the Turkic world, Hungary and other countries around the shared historical and cultural heritage of the Great Steppe.
The opening ceremony was attended by President of the Hungarian Turan Foundation András Bíró, Mayor of Bugac László Szabó, Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States Kubanychbek Omuraliev, President of the Turkic Academy, Prof. Dr. Shahin Mustafayev, Secretary General of TURKSOY Sultan Raev, as well as representatives of state and public institutions, academic and cultural organizations, diplomatic missions, and delegations and guests from various countries.
As part of the official ceremony, Shahin Mustafayev delivered remarks highlighting Hungary’s special role in the development of Turkological studies and the academic research of the early history of the Turkic peoples and the Huns.
“The Turkic Academy has maintained fruitful cooperation with academic organizations, museums and research centers in Hungary for many years. Today, this cooperation is entering a new stage. In particular, the Academy is working together with the Hungarian Turan Foundation and the Hungarian National Museum within the Association of Research Institutes and Centers for Archaeology of the Turkic World (ARICA), opening new opportunities for the study and preservation of our shared historical and cultural heritage,” President of the Academy said.
Held in Hungary every two years, the Kurultaj is organized by the Hungarian Turan Foundation (Magyar Turán Alapítvány). First held in Hungary in 2008, the event brings together cultural, ethnographic and academic programs highlighting the historical heritage of the peoples of the Great Steppe.
