On May 25, 2023, the President of the Turkic Academy, Shahin Mustafayev, took part in the international scientific and practical conference on the topic "Issues of Research of Turkic Runic Monuments", dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the disclosure of the secrets of the ancient Turkic runic script by Wilhelm Thomsen.
The meeting, organized by the Department of Turkology of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, was attended by scholars of Turkology from a number of countries, ambassadors of Turkic states to the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as applicants. The conference participants made their presentations in the traditional format, as well as through the Zoom platform. The scientific event was led by Zhanna Kurmangalieva, Member of the Board, Vice–Rector for Science, Commercialization and Internationalization of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. The Head of the Department of Turkology of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, the statesman and public figure Myrzatai Zholdasbekov shared his memories of how the scientific copy of the Kultegin monument was placed at the University 22 years ago. In turn, the President of the Turkic Academy, Shahin Mustafayev, noted that the disclosure of the Turkic script 130 years ago was one of the important events that greatly changed the views on the Turkic peoples at that time. Undoubtedly, written culture is one of the main values of human civilization. Along with this, the Head of the Academy told about how a new written monument belonging to the ancient Turkic era was discovered in the Nomgon area in Mongolia last year, and said that the archaeological excavations would continue this year. In his opinion, today this inscription is the oldest monument where the word "Turk" is mentioned. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkiye to the Republic of Kazakhstan Mustafa Kapucu expressed gratitude to the organizers of the Conference for the invitation, and said that the study of the common heritage of the Turkic peoples would be supported further on. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Kazakhstan Batyr Rejepov expressed his conviction that the cooperation of the related Turkic peoples would be strengthened. The conference was attended online by scientists from the regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, from fraternal Turkic countries – Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, from a number of regions of the Russian Federation (such as the Republics of Altai, Sakha-Yakutia, Tatarstan, Tyva, Khakassia), as well as from related Hungary, Belgium and China.
