On December 1, 2023, the Turkic Academy and the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University jointly held the international seminar on the topic "Süreyya Ağaoğlu, the first female lawyer of the Turkic World". The event was organized on the occasion of Süreyya Ağaoğlu's 120th anniversary.
The event was attended by the Vice-President of the Turkic Academy Askhat Kessikbayev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Kazakhstan Agalar Atamoglanov, member of the Board-Vice-Rector for Socio-Cultural Development of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University Lyazzat Nurkatova, Education Adviser to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Türkiye to the Republic of Kazakhstan Ömer İnan, Head of the Public Organization "Ahmed Ağaoğlu Research Center" Nigar Akhundova, Professor of the Department of Constitutional and Civil Law at the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University Zhamaladen Ibragimov, Senior Lecturer at Astana International University, Advisor to the Dean of the Higher School of Law Tokzhan Sadykov.
During the event, scientists made their presentations on the life of Süreyya Ağaoğlu, who devoted her life to protecting the legitimate rights of women in the Turkic World, as well as intellectual Turkish women who served the idea of modernism. Nigar Akhundova, the Head of the Public Organization "Ahmed Ağaoğlu Research Center", who specially arrived from Azerbaijan, told about Süreyya Ağaoğlu's place in the history of the Turkic world.
In her report, Nigar Akhundova spoke about the role played in the history of the Turkic World by the personality of Süreyya Ağaoğlu, who has always contributed to strengthening close ties between fraternal Azerbaijan and Türkiye, and was an example of the highest professionalism and perseverance, indomitable will and integrity.
In addition, a specially prepared documentary about the biography and creative path of Süreyya Ağaoğlu was presented to the participants.
It should be noted that Süreyya Ağaoğlu is a Turkish writer and lawyer of Azerbaijani origin, the first female lawyer in the history of Türkiye and the Turkic World as a whole. She was born in 1903 in the Azerbaijani city of Shusha, in the family of an outstanding statesman and politician, publicist, philosopher and scholar Ahmed Bey Ağaoğlu. In 1910, Süreyya Ağaoğlu and her family moved to Türkiye, where she grow up as a person, and devoted her adult life to establishing the rule of law, especially the protection of women's rights and freedoms.
