8-Volume "Encyclopedia of Turkic Humanities" Were Presented

Today, on February 13, 2024, the presentation of the 8-volume work entitled "Encyclopedia of Turkic Humanities" was held in Astana.

The event, jointly organized by the Turkic Academy and the Lev Gumilyov Eurasian National University, was attended by Askhat Kessikbayev, Vice-President of Turkic Academy, Serik Makysh, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of Eurasian National University, Eunkung Oh, Director of the Institute for Eurasian Turkic Countries of the Dongduk Women’s University (Republic of Korea), Professor Uli Schamiloglu, Chair of the Kazakh Language and Turkic Studies Department of Nazarbayev University, Karzhaubai Sartkozhauli, Director of the Research Center of Turkic and Altai Studies of Eurasian National University, Ku Bom Chol, Director of the Korean Cultural Center, as well as famous Turkologists and young scholars.

Speaking at the meeting, Askhat Kessikbayev conveyed the congratulations of the President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev to the participants and reported on the projects being implemented by the Academy as a whole.

In his turn, Serik Makysh shared his thoughts on the research of linguistic interaction between the Turkic and Korean languages.

After that, Professor Eunkyung Oh talked about the development of the "Encyclopedia of Turkic Humanities" and focused on the issue of Turkological research in Korea.

After the speech of the Korean guest, the book presentation ceremony was held.

Further, Uli Schamiloglu spoke about the importance of the newly presented unique publication and touched upon the encyclopedia tradition in Turkic countries in general.

Other participating Turkologists also shared their thoughts on the relationship between Koreans and Turkic countries and expressed their gratitude to the writers of the encyclopedia.

It should be noted that the 8-volume "Encyclopedia of Turkic Humanities" is considered to be the result of a fundamental research project implemented in 2018-2023 with the financial support of the National Research Foundation of Korea. 21 experts from different countries participated in the project as authors under the supervision of Professor Eunkyung Oh

As mentioned in the introductory article of the work, "Encyclopedia of Turkic Humanities" covers the countries of the Turkic Belt (Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkiye, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, as well as Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Altai, Khakassia, Tuva, Sakha Republics (RF), Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in China). It gives information on all humanitarian sciences, in particular, linguistics, literature, history, art, geography, folklore and religious beliefs of the Turkic world.

The encyclopedic work developed in the Korean language consists of 8 volumes with a total of 4500 pages. It contains a comprehensive definition of more than two thousand basic concepts.
