TODAY, ON MARCH 14th, the conference titled “Study and Preservation of the Historical and Cultural Heritage of the Turkic World from the Perspective of UNESCO” began in Baku.
Two-day event was organized on the initiative of the Turkic Academy, together with the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO, and the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO, in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Organization of Turkic States, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), and the Institute for Development and Diplomacy of the ADA University.
During two days, the conference will consider a wide range of topics related to the study and preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of the Turkic world, to further deepen understanding of the impact on various aspects of modern Turkic societies.
Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States Kubanychbek Omuraliev, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan Adil Karimli, President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev, President of the Atatürk Supreme Council for Culture, Language and History Derya Örs, Chairman of the State Tourism Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan Fuad Naghiyev, President of the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO Öcal Oguz, Secretary General of the International Organization of Turkic Culture Sultan Raev, President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage foundation Aktoty Raimkulova and Chairman of the Board, Administration of State Historical-Architectural Reserve “Icheri Sheher” Shahin Seyidzade presented their speeches at the opening ceremony.
President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev outlined the importance of protection, rehabilitation, promotion, management, and more effective utilization of historical and cultural monuments and sites of heritage, which hold immense value for the local communities and Turkic World as a whole, following UNESCO’s principles and standards.
During thematic sessions, leaders of international organizations, representatives from the National Commission for UNESCO, scientists and academic figures stressed the significance of preserving and promoting the historical and cultural heritage of the Turkic world for future generations. They also highlighted the importance of safeguarding heritage sites, artifacts, traditions, languages and customs.
The event participants unanimously emphasized the importance of inventorying Turkic historical and cultural heritage and supporting the creation of necessary mechanisms to facilitate systematic cooperation in this area.
Among session discussions the event also features a cultural program as visiting exhibition “Heritage in Textiles: Turkic Clothing, Carpets and Ornaments” at Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum and visiting World Heritage Site “Icheri sheher”.
