Dictionary of Environmental Terms of Turkic Languages Presented in Baku

On May 13, a presentation of the “Dictionary of Environmental Terms of Turkic Languages,” prepared by the Turkic Academy, was held in Baku at the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The event was attended by President of the Turkic Academy, Prof. Dr. Shahin Mustafayev, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Vugar Karimov, as well as representatives of diplomatic missions, the academic community, and relevant scientific institutions.

The new dictionary is a systematic scientific resource that brings together ecological terminology across Turkic languages and is aimed at developing a common professional and scientific language in the fields of ecology and environmental studies.

The publication covers nine Turkic languages and also includes English and Russian equivalents, ensuring practical usability in international scientific communication.

“The distinguishing feature of this project is that, while bilingual and trilingual dictionaries have been prepared earlier, this is the first multilingual publication covering nine Turkic languages and, for the first time, focusing specifically on ecology. In its preparation, subject-matter experts, state institutions responsible for terminology, and linguistic institutes worked together,” said President of the Turkic Academy.

The project is part of the broader work of the Turkic Academy on producing sectoral terminological dictionaries. To date, seven such publications have been prepared, covering fields such as medicine, economics, military affairs, diplomacy, and others.
