On October 12, 2023, in Almaty, the Turkic Academy, together with the M.O. Auezov Institute of Literature and Art, held the international scientific and practical conference "The Legacy of Magzhan Zhumabayev: Spiritual Integrity and Historical Continuity of the Turkic World", dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the outstanding Magzhan Zhumabayev, poet, teacher and activist of the Alash movement.
The conference was attended by domestic and foreign scientists in the field of literary studies, linguistics, art history, pedagogy, representatives of international organizations, public figures and researchers of the Institute. The event was moderated by the Director General of the M.O. Auezov Institute of Literature and Art, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Philology Kenzhehan Matyzhanov. The Vice-President of the Turkic Academy, Askhat Kesikbayev, spoke at the opening ceremony of the conference, where he read out the congratulations on behalf of the Head of the Academy, Shahin Mustafayev. In addition, congratulatory letters on behalf of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, Akim (Mayor) of the city of Almaty Yerbolat Dosayev and Chairman of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan Mereke Kulkenov were read out at the meeting. During the conference, topics such as the poetic world of Magzhan, literary and cultural ties of Magzhan Zhumabayev and the XX-XXI centuries, Magzhan studies and Turkology, Magzhan's poetic traditions in fiction, Magzhan Zhumabayev's educational activities, Magzhan Zhumabayev's active personality and Alash movement, current contemporary problems of Magzhan studies and Magzhan's legacy in archival, museum and rare handwritten materials. At the conference, Professor of the Mirza Ulugbek National University of Uzbekistan, Doctor of Philology Nasimkhon Rakhmanov, member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Historical Sciences Mambet Koygeldi, Professor of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Danai Iskakuly, Director of the Eurasian Research Institute Suat Beylur, researcher of the Turkic Academy, folklorist Akedil Toyshanuly, Deputy Chairman of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan Bauyrzhan Zhakyp, Head of the Department of Kyrgyz Literature of the Ch. Aitmatov Institute of Language and Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, Doctor of Philology Keldibek Koilubaev, Director of the Scientific and Innovation Center "Manuscript and Textual Studies" of the M. O. Auezov Institute of Literature and Art Zhumashai Rakysh made reports on the topics of their research. The presentation of the three-volume academic complete works of M. Zhumabayev was also held at the meeting. The first volume of the collection, prepared with the support of the Turkic Academy, contains poems by the poet, the second – poems, stories and translations by Magzhan. Textbooks and articles by M. Zhumabayev are grouped in the third volume. All his works are provided with scientific comments. Within the framework of the conference, the Central Scientific Library of the RSE "Gylym Ordasy" organized a book exhibition dedicated to the heritage of Magzhan Zhumabayev. After the scientific meeting, the guests visited the House-Museum of M.O. Аuezov where they watched the documentary film "Magzhan Zhumabayev", shot by documentary filmmaker Khalil Omarov.
