Today, on November 14, an international conference was held to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the distinguished Karakalpak poet Ajiniyaz Kosybay uly.
The event, organized with the support of the Turkic Academy, took place in the world’s largest non-collapsible yurt, located in the "Ok Kush" (White Bird) complex in Nukus and listed in the Guinness Book of Records. It gathered prominent representatives of science and culture from Uzbekistan and the Turkic world.
During the opening ceremony, welcome addresses were delivered by Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan (Uzbekistan) Amanbay Orynbayev, President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev and Vice-President of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan Bahrom Abdukhalimov.
In his address, Shahin Mustafayev emphasized the importance of Ajiniyaz’s anniversary, celebrated widely throughout the Turkic world. “The Turkic Academy has implemented several projects in honor of this occasion. Through our initiative, selected poems of Ajiniyaz have been published in Azerbaijani and Turkish,” he noted.
Mustafayev also highlighted that one of the Turkic Academy’s primary missions is to support the development and prosperity of Turkic peoples through the study of their literature, languages, culture and history. “The Karakalpak language is also featured within our ‘Dictionaries of Turkic Terminologies’ project. Today, we are pleased to present the scientific community of Karakalpakstan with economic, linguistic and military dictionaries, prepared this year,” added the head of the Turkic Academy.
The conference continued with presentations on Ajiniyaz’s literary legacy. The official part concluded with a concert program, followed by sectional meetings where participants offered a detailed analysis of the poet’s significant contributions to the region’s literature and culture.
