SUMMER SCHOOL ON NEW ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES

The Turkic Academy, with the support of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) and the Khoja Ahmet Yessewi International Turkish-Kazakh University, is organizing the Summer School on New Energy Technologies, which will take place from August 18 to 25, 2024, in Turkistan, Kazakhstan. The program aims to study and discuss various energy technologies, encompassing both traditional and modern approaches.

The theme of the summer school is centered around teaching and discussing various energy technologies, with a focus on both traditional and modern approaches. The program aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the latest advancements, challenges, and opportunities in the field of energy technologies. It also suggests a grounding in essential principles and established methods of energy production as well as interest in innovative and sustainable solutions to meet future energy demands. The summer school is promising as it has a potential to inspire new approaches to energy production, management, and sustainability, encouraging participants to contribute to the development of future energy solutions.

To this end amongst others, themes to be covered are:

  • Fundamental Principles and Concepts in Thermodynamics
  • Traditional Energy Sources
  • Nuclear Energy
  • Renewable Energy Sources
  • Hydrogen Energy Technologies
  • Waste to Energy Options
  • Economic and Social Dimensions of Energy
  • Smart Grid
  • Energy Policies and Strategies
  • Environment and Sustainability Dimensions of Energy

Program Format: The summer school will consist of daily classes for five days, before and after noon, and also include social programs. All courses will be given in English.

Venue: The summer school will be held at Hoca Ahmet Yesevi International Turkish-Kazakh University in Turkistan, Kazakhstan.

Lecturers: The lectures will be delivered by a group of internationally renowned academics from Turkic States. The final program will be sent to the participants directly after the application evaluation is completed.

Participants: The program is designed for participants who are under the age of 35 and come from Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania, Jordan, Montenegro, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Türkiye, Turkmenistan and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The summer school is designed for doctoral students and post-doctoral researchers who have experience and interest in the field of energy. The maximum number of students to be invited is 30. At the closing ceremony, certificates will be awarded to the participants.

Expenses: As a result of the evaluations by the selection committee, full scholarship will be granted for 30 participants who are accepted to the summer school program. Travel and accommodation expenses will be provided by the organizers. In addition, each participant will be required to pay for their own health insurance before their flight tickets are purchased. The flight ticket will be sent free of

charge to each participant. (However, if free ticket owners do not attend the summer school, the cost of the ticket will be requested from them.) For Enquiries and Application: Applicants will be asked to submit the application form attached and return the form together with curriculum vitae, letter of motivation describing their purpose in attending the summer school and a letter of reference. Criteria for applications are that participants should have a good basis in the discipline of energy and a good command of the English language.

Required Documents:

  • A fully completed application form (Please use form on the first page for application.)
  • A copy of the applicant’s passport (Passport photo page only)
  • A copy of the last degree obtained (If the applicant is still a student, proof of studentship is needed.).
  • A 250-300 word statement of purpose addressed to the selection committee
  • A letter of reference (It can be obtained from the academy of science of the applicant's home country, from the faculty members working at the university where the applicant is studying, or from Hoca Ahmet Yesevi University, International Turkic Academy or Turkish Academy of Sciences as stakeholders of the summer school.)

Applicants are expected to have proficiency in English as the medium of instruction at the Summer School is English.
