On August 19, 2024, the Summer Schools for young scholars from the Turkic world were officially inaugurated in Turkestan. This initiative is a collaborative effort among the Turkic Academy, the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA), the Turkish Linguistic Society (TDK) and Khoja Ahmed Yasawi International Kazakh-Turkish University.
The opening ceremony was attended by President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev, President of TÜBA Muzaffer Şeker, Deputy Chairman of TDK Harun Şahin, Rector of the Khoja Ahmed Yasawi International Kazakh-Turkish University Zhanar Temirbekova, Head of the Department at the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan Anar Mukhtarova, also leading professors and lecturers from various Turkic countries.
In his speech, Shahin Mustafayev emphasized the significance of strengthening scientific connections among young scholars from the Turkic world. He highlighted that the primary goal of the Summer Schools is to create a network of emerging researchers who can exchange knowledge and experiences while building both personal and professional relationships.
Mustafayev also noted the uniqueness of this year’s event, as it is the first time that two schools—“Turkology” and “New Energy Technologies”—are being held simultaneously. He pointed out that this merger underscores the importance of both cultural and scientific ties among the Turkic peoples.
The Turkology Summer School features 28 young scholars from Azerbaijan, Germany, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Ukraine, Mongolia, Türkiye and North Macedonia. Meanwhile, the New Energy Technologies Summer School includes 21 participants from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Albania and Türkiye. They will be guided by 37 esteemed scholars from various Turkic countries.
The Turkology program is designed to provide an in-depth study of the history, archaeology, language and literature of Turkic peoples. It includes both theoretical and practical sessions tailored for young researchers, offering them a chance to deepen their knowledge, present their own projects and forge valuable professional connections. A key focus of the Turkology school will be the study of the "Divan Lughat al-Turk", the first scholarly work that shaped the concept of the Turkic world.
The New Energy Technologies School aims to give participants a comprehensive understanding of the latest advancements, challenges and prospects in the energy sector. The program covers fundamental principles and traditional methods of energy production, as well as innovative and sustainable solutions needed to meet future energy demands.
President of the Academy expressed confidence that the week-long sessions at the summer schools will enhance participants' knowledge and strengthen their connections with peers from different countries.
