The VII General Assembly meeting of the Union of National Academies of Sciences of the Turkic World (UNASTW) was held in Ankara

Today, on May 27, the VII General Assembly of the Union of National Academies of Sciences of the Turkic World (UNASTW) convened in Ankara.

The meeting, organized by the Turkic Academy was attended by its President Shahin Mustafayev, Chairman of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States Binali Yildirim, heads of member Academies of Sciences within UNASTW, leadership representatives from TÜBİTAK and university rectors.

The Assembly's agenda encompassed concrete steps to implement decisions from the previous year's Sixth Assembly meeting in Almaty. Discussions revolved around initiatives that define new directions for expanding scientific cooperation in the Turkic world.

The Turkic Academy unveiled reports detailing their completed projects while also introducing fresh proposals for enhancing scientific cooperation through common platforms. Topics ranged from delving into the histories, literatures, cultures and languages of Turkic peoples to establishing a unified scientific works database. Discussions also encompassed initiatives in ecology and water resource management, along with strategies for engaging youth in scientific research.

During his address at the event's opening ceremony, Shahin Mustafayev, President of the Turkic Academy, underscored that the resolutions adopted during the sixth meeting marked a substantial breakthrough for the Union of National Academies of Sciences of the Turkic World.

The Turkic Academy serves as the Secretariat for the Union of National Academies of Sciences of the Turkic World (UNASTW), founded in 2015. Its primary goal is to foster extensive collaboration in science and education across Turkic communities.

Presently, the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan in the Russian Federation holds the chairmanship within UNASTW.

During the meeting, Ainur Timerkhanov (Russian Federation) passed the chairmanship of the Union of National Academies of Sciences of Turkic States to the Turkish side. Muzaffer Sheker, the head of the Turkish Academy of Sciences, conveyed his appreciation to his colleague from Tatarstan for effectively steering the Union.
