Nowruz Celebration Held at the Turkic Academy

Today, on March 19, the Turkic Academy held a ceremonial event dedicated to the celebration of Nowruz, attended by representatives of government officials and the academic community.

Among the guests were state and public figure, former member of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States Adil Akhmetov, Chairman of the Language Policy Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Erbol Tleshov, Turkologist scholar Sherubay Kurmanbayuly, professors of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University Amantai Sharip, Magripa Eskeyeva, and Gulgaysha Sagidolda.

Opening the event, President of the Turkic Academy, Prof. Dr. Shahin Mustafayev, congratulated the participants on the occasion of Nowruz and on the results of the constitutional referendum held on March 15, noting its importance for strengthening the modern statehood of Kazakhstan and the broader Turkic world.

In his speech, the head of the Academy emphasized that recent years have been particularly productive for the Turkic world.

“At the UNESCO level, December 15 was proclaimed as the Day of Turkic Languages, and this year marks the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress in Baku, which played a pivotal role in the development of Turkic science, language, and culture. The Turkic Academy, in cooperation with relevant Turkic institutions, plans to organize a commemorative event in Almaty,” said Mustafayev.

After being introduced to the activities and publications of the Turkic Academy, the participants highly appreciated its contribution to the study of the history, language, and culture of Turkic peoples, highlighting its significant role in strengthening scientific and cultural cooperation across the Turkic world and expressing their readiness to further develop collaboration.

At the conclusion of the event, guests were presented with commemorative gifts and academic publications as a token of appreciation for their continued cooperation and support of the Academy’s activities. The cultural program featured a performance by the “Tartu” folklore ensemble.
