Today, the First International Conference on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (AI) was held at Baku State University, serving as an important interdisciplinary platform for discussing the moral and social challenges arising from rapid technological progress.
The conference was organized by the Turkic Academy in cooperation with Baku State University and the Turkish Academy of Sciences. The event was attended by President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev, Rector of Baku State University Elchin Babayev, President of the Turkish Academy of Sciences Muzaffer Şeker, as well as representatives of academic, scientific, and international institutions from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Romania, and Thailand.
Participants presented reports on the role of AI in education, culture, and society, addressing topics such as knowledge transformation, ethics, digital independence, and the future of work, emphasizing the need for international cooperation to ensure the responsible and ethical development of AI technologies.
In his speech, President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev noted that technological advancement is impossible without moral guidance:
“Artificial intelligence opens unprecedented opportunities for humanity, but at the same time poses new ethical challenges. As representatives of the Turkic world, which has a rich philosophical and humanistic heritage, we must contribute to shaping a fair and responsible digital era. Knowledge must always go hand in hand with ethics,” he emphasized.
A special highlight of the conference was the presentation of the newly established Department on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence at Baku State University, which aims to conduct cutting-edge research and train specialists who combine technical excellence with a humanistic worldview.
Within the framework of the conference, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Turkic Academy and Baku State University.
